LRT allots ‘green zones’ for bikers

MANILA, Philippines—Bicycle commuters who wish to cut travel time while getting some relief from the fumes, noise and maddening traffic of Metro Manila now have a lighter, off-road option.

The Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 (Baclaran-Monumento) and 2 (Recto-Santolan) Sunday began admitting passengers with bikes in tow, allotting the last coach of each train for these pedal-pushing riders.

Cleaning up Pasig starts at Palace, says Palafox

PRESIDENT MACAPAGAL-ARROYO has agreed to clean up her own backyard first before the government removes all the other obstructions along the Pasig River in an effort to stop the perennial flooding in Metro Manila.

Urban planner and architect Felino Palafox Jr. said two buildings in the Malacañang compound which backs to the Pasig were in violation of the 10-meter easement rule for riverfront properties.
