RODNE R. GALICHA hails from the island of Sibuyan in the middle of the Philippines where the world's densest forest flourishes, the Philippines' cleanest inland body of water flows and the majestic Mt. Guiting-guiting dwells, home to some of the world's endangered species of flora and fauna.
In San Fernando, he underwent primary studies at the San Fernando Central Elementary School, secondary school at Sibuyan Polytechnic College and preparatory college at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Seminary in Romblon. He is the eldest son of Nenita Romero Rodino and Rodrigo Galindez Galicha.
He finished Baccalaureate in Philosophy (Cum Laude) and Bachelor of Arts Classical (Cum Laude) at the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas where he stayed as resident-seminarian at the Central Seminary. He taught Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, Sociology, History and Literature at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Seminary and Colegio de San Juan de Letran - Intramuros. In his stay at Letran, he was elected president of the CLAS Faculty Club.
He served as the volunteer executive director of Sibuyan Island Sentinels League for Environment Inc., Coordinator of Sibuyanons Against Mining (SAM), Sites of Struggles Officer of the Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas, coordinator of an advocacy group Alyansa Tigil Mina and convener-coordinator of Mining Action Philippines in Australia. He has been in partnership with the Episcopal Commission on Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, the Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines, and Asian Center for the Progress of Peoples in Hongkong. he served as one of the conveners and founders. In the formation of the Cooperation of Small Islands of Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon which aims to enhance the disaster risk reduction management and climate change measures of the three main islands of Region IV-B.
He has been invited to discuss environmental and human rights issues at Friends of the Earth-Melbourne, Australian Conservation Foundation, Monash University in Australia, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand and the Asia Pacific Justice and Peace Worker's Network both in Manila and Thailand. He was chosen as an official presenter of Al Gore's The Climate Project, in which he underwent in-depth training in Australia under Mr. Gore on the issue of climate crisis together with three other Filipinos forming the Philippine Climate Justice Initiative. He has discussed the issue of climate crisis to almost 10,000 individuals in different universities and communities nationwide.
He has been invited as Visiting Scholar at the Faculty of Theology of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Louvain) in Belgium during an international gathering of theologians and philosophers, in which he discussed the Philippine Church's response to ecological crisis. In a heuristic session with professors from Denmark, USA and India, he developed the idea of maximizing the propensity of human beings to asceticism as one of the tools for environmental protection and preservation.
He is currently employed as Sites of Struggles Officer of social development NGO Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (PhilDHRRA) doing resource and conflict management in mining affected communities;member of the country's largest green alliance, the Green Convergence for Safe Food, Healthy Environment and Sustainable Economy. Further, he is one of the national council members of Partido Kalikasan, the emerging Philippine green party.
With international affiliations, he is member of International Society for Philosophers (UK), Oceans Future Society (USA), Asian and Comparative Philosophy Society (USA), International Forum of Educational Technology and Society (New Zealand), Equality and Justice Society (USA), Sociologists Without Borders (USA), and ArtWatch International (USA).
His fields of specialization are Environmental Preservation, Ecological Education, Indigenous Peoples Rights Protection, Sustainable Development, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.
